Imaginary foe

It is so enjoyable watching a kitten playing, in this case attacking some sort of imaginary foe.

I love painting animals. Horses and my family's pets were my earliest drawing and painting subjects. Animal portraits were among my first professional works, then children and adult human beings. I love capturing the true essence of the spirit.

Invisible Foe was a portrait of not only the kitten but her surroundings, an interesting task. While a plain background might have set the kitten off better, this is a faithful oil recreation of an old photograph taken by the kitten's breeder and the scene as is was important to her.

I love the joy of the moment and hope all who gaze upon it do, too. ~ Ellen
