Hidden away at the end of a long walk through the western half of the James Farm Ecological Preserve is a clearing overlooking Pasture Point Cove and what used to be a cattle farm. The cattle would feed on the salt marshes. Bricks from the old farmhouse can still be found. The secluded clearing with a small beach area makes a quiet getaway only a mile inland from the busy Delaware beaches.

I live on the edge of the James Farm and painted this as a fundraiser at the request of founding preserve manager Jim Alderman. My studio overlooks the peaceful pastures on the eastern side.

Giclee reproductions and the full story of this painting and the area's history are available through the Ellen Rice Gallery.
